Three-Dimensional Visualization System of Trabecular Structure

Here is a Japanese Edition

abstract

`a bedridden old person' has recently attracted much attention.
A bone fracture, which is the cause of `a bedridden old person',
is due to an osteoporosis.

Generally speaking, a bone mass decreases as a man gets older.
So, when a man got old, a bone strength of the whole body would
be weak. On the other hand, when a man suffers from an osteoporosis,
his bone mass will decrease more than that of the healthy same
generation. So an osteoporosis causes a compression fracture
more easily.

At the present time, the diagnosis of an osteoporosis generally
examines a bone mass or checks a simple X-ray image which
is the backward image of the whole bone. But using
these ways, three-dimensional microscopic bone structure
is not precisely estimated. In this reason, We constructed
the inner microscopic bone structure with a three-dimensional
image and a model of the bone with laser-lithography.
Moreover, we developed the system which was able to evaluate
the bone structure quantitatively.
