Phantom limb is a phenomenon to feel that there is limb severed before.
It is accompanied with a pain and the paralysis that are hard to be cured.
Although a nerve irritation therapy and medication are devised as the rehabilitation technique
of a phantom limb, these techniques are expensive and dangerous to a
patient.
It is effective to use mirror for rehabilitation of phantom limb pain.
In using the mirror, participants feel disagreement between the sight and the somatic
sensation, the plasticity of the brain is stimulated.
However this method has problems that motion of body are restricted.
In this research, a rehabilitation system using VR(Virtual Reality) in substitution for a mirror is proposed.
The experiment, which inspects whether VR can cause disagreement between the sight
and the somatic sensation of the mirror, confirmed the utility of VR.
Based on this confirmation, the system which presents CG(Computer Graphics) on a display
according to the position and angle of the limbs acquired by camera and marker is proposed.
Whether the proposed system could have an influence on somatic sensation is tested.
The result reveals that the proposed system has an influence on somatic sensation by change of the presentation of the movement of
the healthy limb.
