The supporting environment for electronic inspection of print circuit boards applying immerse AR technology was constructed. As the targets are planar print circuit boards, the virtual graphical display can be superimposed without depth discontinuity by using a desk top display and a half mirror. Unlike other AR applications, a worker does not need to wear a heavy and uncomfortable HMD. When the worker feels no need to help by the system, he/her may continue the inspection work anytime to look only the target objects.
Also, the proposed system is able to increase the reliability of inspection work. The process control PC always maintain the process flow correctly and prevent worker's human error by prompting the certain instructions and the certain points on the circuit board. It was demonstrated that AR technology like the proposed system will play an important role in flexible automation in near future.
